Every horse is different and not every approach will suit every rider or fit every horse; we therefore offer a range of services depending on both your needs.
Lessons and schooling
Based near Ashburton in Devon, we are happy to offer lessons on your own horse or pony at our yard, where we have a large all weather outdoor arena, or to come to you at your yard. Lessons are approx. 45mins up to 1hr and based on a private lesson format. Semi-private and group lessons also available on request.
We are able to offer freelance schooling sessions and lessons on
We are happy to offer sessions involving any combination of the above, whether you would like to have a part lesson/part schooling session, to work the horse in hand/on the lunge first before moving on to ridden work or vice versa. We are also always more than happy to get on your horse or pony ourselves during your lesson if you would like us to demonstrate any particular point or if you are having difficulty. We would never ask you to do something that we couldn't or wouldn't, do ourselves!
Prices start from just £35 if you bring your horse or pony to us for your lesson, or if you are based in the immediate vicinity, and £40 for all other local areas. A small additional travel cost may apply to those outside our local area or that of other clients we may also be visiting nearby. Please contact us for further details of when we are next in your area. We are in most areas on our coverage page at least once a week.
We offer regular clinics and demos across the UK. This is not limited to areas we currently cover, but extends across all regions. Why not book a clinic with us and a group of your local horsey friends or riding club members who may also be interested in a lesson? Clinics with Tori, Mike or both are available and formats can be a mixture of lessons or schooling sessions -just let us know! Tori is also able to offer a dismounted workshop and lecture on the biomechanics of the horse's movement and the importance of synchronising yours and your horse's movement, as part of the clinic format. Clinics are often a good way for several riders who sadly aren't based in a region we currently visit on a regular basis to still have lessons or schooling with us. Sessions within clinics are offered on an individual private lesson basis, unless otherwise arranged and spectators are welcome to watch any or all lessons free of charge. Depending on area, at least 5 horses and riders are needed for a clinic to be possible. Dismounted workshop places are £10 per person with private lessons on your horse starting from just £35 each during a clinic.
We also hold quarterly clinics and demos with our own horses at our yard in South Devon, please contact us if you would be interested in bringing your horse along to our next event.
Breaking & Schooling Livery
All visiting horses and ponies are cared for on a full livery basis, with full care and any necessary hay and bedding included in the price, in addition to schooling 5/6 days a week depending on the individual's progress. They also benefit from a weekly session with our back massage pad, which is great for both mental and physical relaxation. We don't just offer a horse training service but a whole horse approach; we feel that a happy and comfortable horse is always going to be a more willing riding partner. We therefore do our utmost to ensure that your horse is in the best possible place mentally as well as physically, enabling he or she to better take our ridden training on board. Owners of horses and ponies sent to us on training livery are able to choose which set up best suits their horse or the routine they are accustomed to at home - out 24/7 with free access to their own 24ft shelter on a hard standing yard or, part stabled, part field kept. Our preference is always to allow horses as much free turnout time as possible as we feel this is key to a happy, healthy horsey partner. Our yard has a more natural set up which was designed with the barefoot horse or pony in mind but is equally suitable for shod horses. We also have facilities in place to cater for training liveries prone to laminitis or suffering from EMS. Please contact us for further details.
*Please note that 1 week's livery is payable in advance at the time of booking to secure your space. NO BOOKINGS can be taken or confirmed without this payment.
Rehabilitation livery post injury or surgery
Once your horse has been successfully rehabilitated through an in hand, lunging, long reining or hacking program (dependant on your veterinary surgeons discharge instructions) then we are also happy to bring him or her sympathetically back in to ridden work for you too if required. Please see above for further details of the schooling livery service that we offer. Prices start from £165* per week for rehabilitation livery -please contact us for further details or to discuss your individual requirements.
Competition & Training Livery
Longer term competition and training livery is also available. Please contact us for further details
Competing of horses and ponies on behalf of the owner
We are happy to compete your horse or pony on your behalf at affiliated or unaffiliated levels. It is the owner’s responsibility to transport the horse to the event and to cover all entry fees and associated costs of the day. A nominal fee of £20 is charged per test, for working your horse in and competing on your behalf.
In the unfortunate event that you have to cancel your planned lesson or schooling session then please be considerate by giving at least 24hrs notice. We do understand that sometimes things just happen and this is not always feasible but please get in touch as soon as possible. We reserve the right to charge a cancelation fee for those who do not give adequate notice of a cancellation and a mileage fee will be charged should you fail to cancel your lesson before we arrive at your yard.
We are happy to teach in both indoor and outdoor schools, in fields and grass arenas. All that we ask is that you have a safe enclosed/sectioned off area in which to work your horse. No matter the weather we will always turn up for your planned schooling session or lesson. If you do not want to go ahead due to weather conditions then it is your responsibility to cancel. We aren’t fair weather riders or teachers!
Arena hire: any costs at your chosen lesson venue are your responsibility. If it is necessary for you to hire a school in order to host a clinic then this cost should be shared between individual riders and is not the responsibility of Aylmore Classical Dressage.
